Beetroot Uttapam is a healthy and delicious South Indian breakfast dish. Here’s a simple recipe to make Beetroot Uttapam:

Ingredients of Beetroot Uttapam

  • 1 cup semolina (rava or sooji)
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/4 cup grated beetroot
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp grated ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  • Oil for cooking

How to Make Beetroot Uttapam

  1. In a mixing bowl, add semolina, rice flour and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add water gradually to make a smooth batter of medium consistency. Cover and let the batter rest for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add grated beetroot, grated carrot, finely chopped onion, green chilli, and grated ginger to the batter. Mix well.
  4. Heat a non-stick pan or a griddle on medium heat. Grease it with oil.
  5. Pour a ladle full of the batter onto the pan and spread it evenly in a circular motion to make a thick pancake. (Note: The uttapam should be thicker than a regular dosa)
  6. Drizzle a little oil around the edges and on top of the uttapam.
  7. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.
  8. Flip and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
