Beetroot Uttapam is a healthy and delicious South Indian breakfast dish. Here’s a simple recipe to make Beetroot Uttapam:
Ingredients of Beetroot Uttapam
- 1 cup semolina (rava or sooji)
- 1/2 cup rice flour
- 1/4 cup grated beetroot
- 1/4 cup grated carrot
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 green chilli, finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp grated ginger
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
- Oil for cooking
How to Make Beetroot Uttapam
- In a mixing bowl, add semolina, rice flour and salt. Mix well.
- Add water gradually to make a smooth batter of medium consistency. Cover and let the batter rest for 10-15 minutes.
- Add grated beetroot, grated carrot, finely chopped onion, green chilli, and grated ginger to the batter. Mix well.
- Heat a non-stick pan or a griddle on medium heat. Grease it with oil.
- Pour a ladle full of the batter onto the pan and spread it evenly in a circular motion to make a thick pancake. (Note: The uttapam should be thicker than a regular dosa)
- Drizzle a little oil around the edges and on top of the uttapam.
- Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown.
- Flip and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
