  • 500g prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped, for garnish

How to Make Tangy Tamarind Prawn Curry

  1. In a bowl, mix the prawns with the turmeric powder and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Add the garlic, ginger, and green chilies and sauté for a minute or until the raw smell disappears.
  4. Add the chopped tomato and cook until the tomato is soft and mushy.
  5. Add the coriander powder, cumin powder, and red chili powder and mix well.
  6. Add the tamarind paste and mix until everything is well combined.
  7. Add the prawns to the pan and mix well.
  8. Add salt to taste and a cup of water. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  9. Cover the pan and let the prawns cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they are fully cooked and tender.
  10. Once the prawns are cooked, garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
