Ingredients of Chilli Fish

  • 500g fish fillets (tilapia or any firm white fish)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Spring onions, chopped for garnish

How to Make Chilli Fish

  1. Cut the fish into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and black pepper.
  2. Coat the fish pieces with cornstarch and shake off any excess.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the fish until golden brown and crispy. Drain on a paper towel and set aside.
  4. In a separate pan, heat 2 tbsp oil and sauté ginger and garlic paste until fragrant.
  5. Add onions, bell peppers, and green chillies and stir-fry for a few minutes.
  6. Add soy sauce, tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  7. Add the fried fish to the pan and toss gently to coat with the sauce.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot with steamed rice.
