Burritos mojados are a type of Mexican dish that typically consists of a burrito filled with meat, beans, rice, and other ingredients, and then smothered in a spicy sauce and melted cheese. The term “mojado” means “wet” in Spanish, so the dish gets its name from the fact that it is covered in sauce.

Ingredients of Burritos Mojados
- 1 lb ground beef or shredded chicken
- 1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup of cooked rice
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 large flour tortillas
- 2 cups of your favourite salsa
- 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
How to Make Burritos Mojados
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or shredded chicken over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add the diced onion and minced garlic and continue to cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the onions are translucent.
- Add the black beans, cooked rice, chilli powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- To assemble the burritos, spoon 1/2 cup of the beef or chicken mixture onto the centre of each tortilla. Fold the sides of the tortilla in towards the centre, then roll up tightly from the bottom to create a burrito. Place the burritos seam-side down in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Pour the salsa over the top of the burritos, making sure they are completely covered. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the salsa.
- Bake the burritos in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Once the burritos are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped cilantro, if desired.
