Ingredients of Apple Sausage Plait
- 1 sheet of puff pastry dough
- 4-5 sausages, sliced
- 2 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
How to Make Apple Sausage Plait
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced sausages and cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove the sausages from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened. Add the sliced apples, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper, and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the apples are tender. Remove from the heat and let cool for a few minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry dough to a rectangular shape. Place the cooled sausage and apple mixture down the center of the pastry, leaving about 1 inch of space on each side.
- Cut slits into the pastry on either side of the filling, about 1 inch apart. Fold the strips of pastry over the filling, alternating sides to create a braided effect.
- Brush the beaten egg over the top of the pastry.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
- Let the plait cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
