Ingredients of Indonesian Nasi Goreng
- 4 cups cooked rice, chilled
- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 shallots, sliced
- 1 red chilli pepper, chopped
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1/2 cup green beans, chopped
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce or oyster sauce
- 2 eggs, fried (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
How to Make Indonesian Nasi Goreng
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a wok or frying pan over high heat. Add the shrimp and stir-fry until cooked through, then set aside.
- Add a little more oil to the pan and sauté the garlic, onion, and shallots until fragrant.
- Add the chilli pepper, carrot, and green beans and stir-fry for a minute or two.
- Add the chilled cooked rice and stir-fry until heated through and lightly browned.
- Add the soy sauce, kecap manis, and fish sauce or oyster sauce and continue to stir-fry for another minute or two.
- Add the cooked shrimp and mix well.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve the Nasi Goreng with a fried egg on top, if desired.
