Ingredients of Mushroom Manchurian

  • 1 pound mushrooms, cleaned and chopped
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 capsicum, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped spring onions for garnish

How to Make Mushroom Manchurian

  1. In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Add a little water to make a thick batter. Dip the chopped mushrooms in the batter and deep fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  2. To make the sauce, heat the oil in a pan and add ginger and garlic. Saute for a minute.
  3. Add chopped onions, capsicum, and green chillies. Stir-fry for a minute or two.
  4. Add soy sauce, vinegar, tomato ketchup, and red chilli sauce. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  5. Add the cornstarch-water mixture and cook until the sauce thickens. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the fried mushrooms to the sauce and toss well.
  7. Garnish with chopped spring onions and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
